Before You Serve

Helpful Dress Tips for Everyone

Our goal is to help set the tone for worship and complement the service. We should avoid causing unnecessary distractions through our actions or dress. Review these tips when preparing for worship on the platform.

Check your outfit in motion

While looking in a mirror, raise your arms as high as possible and swing them in all directions to ensure you are not inappropriately revealing skin or your midriff. Remember, the congregation at many campuses will be positioned lower than you.

Use layers for coverage

Layers are encouraged. Add a cardigan, blazer, or jacket to ensure you are appropriately covered.

Keep the focus on worship

If your outfit accentuates a body part, change or add a layer. We want the congregation to focus on Jesus, not on us.

Prepare for the camera

The cameras will zoom in on you. Take time to iron your clothes, shave or trim your beard, put on makeup, and style your hair.

Ask questions and bring a backup

If you have any questions, send a picture to the worship director. Bring a “safe” outfit with you just in case.

Be ready to adjust

Things look different on camera and on the live stream than in person. If a leader asks you to switch attire, it could be related to how it is appearing on camera.

Not sure about an outfit?

Snap a picture and send it to your worship director before the service. When in doubt, bring a backup.
